In Nepali, Mustang means fertile plain and also called Lo because the area was known to be kingdom of Lo. The people of mustang spoke Tibetan and Tibet culture is being practiced. There are highly dominated ethnic groups of people such as Thakalis, Gurung and Tibetan in Mustang. Upper Mustang Trek is an adventurous trek passes through non forested barren landscape, a steep up and down hills, high peaks, alpine valleys, glaciers etc and a trek as similar as in Tibet. Upper mustang Trek provides a chance to explore the thousand years old monastery, caves, different landscapes, close look to the mountain people/tribes of Nepal and their culture. The magnificent and panoramic view of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and other Himalayan peaks can be observed while passing through an adventurous path.

Day 1: Arrival. Transfer to the hotel. Evening, welcome dinner.
Welcome to Nepal. At your arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, Himalayan Namobuddha Travel and Treks’ representative will be there to welcome you and transfer to the hotel. In the evening, you will be taken for a welcome dinner in one of the typical Nepali restaurant.

Overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 2: Trek Briefing. Special Permit Preparation Day. Free Day in Kathmandu.
Today, we will have detailed trek briefing in presence of your trek guide. While we prepare special trekking permit of Upper Mustang, you can have free time to explore the city on your own. Here are some best options to consider:

Explore around Thamel – a colorful tourist hub of Nepal. You will spot numbers of hotels, money exchange, hotels, shops to buy all kinds of souvenirs, trekking gears, etc and many restaurants to chose from offering both Western and local Nepali cuisines.
Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is a great place to start your exploration, where you will walk(about 10-15 min) through narrow alleyways teeming with small shops, temples, and local restaurants.

If you want to stretch your legs, Swoyambhunath, the white stupa rising above the valley, is the perfect spot to catch the sunset over the valley. You can also take a cab which is approximately about 15 minutes drive from Thamel if you are too tired to walk.
Visit the Garden of dreams, which is a classical historical garden located at Thamel(about 5-10 min walk) with an exquisite ensemble of pavilions, fountains, decorative garden furniture, and beautiful flowers and trees.

Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara (25 min) Free time in Pokhara.
Transfer to the airport one hour before your flight to Pokhara. Upon arrival at Pokhara airport, you will be received by our representative and transfer to the hotel .

You will have some free time to explore around lakeside Pokhara. You can go for an afternoon boat ride. You can also visit beautiful Barahi temple which is located at the center of Phewa lake.

Depending upon your free time and interests you can also visit some of the famous places around Pokhara like Davi’s fall, International mountain museum, Bindabasini temple , Gupteswor cave etc.

Day 4: Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (30 min) and trek to Kagbeni(2810 m/ about 4 hrs)
Early morning, we’ll take an adventurous flight from Pokhara to Jomsom with spectacular views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna ranges including several other peaks from the point. After reaching Jomsom, the headquarter of Mustang our trek starts the gradual path on the Kali Gandaki river bed to Ekley Bhatti village experiencing windy air. After some walk from Ekley Bhatti we’ll reach to Kagbeni village which lies on the bank of two rivers. Overnight in Kagbeni.

Day 5: Trek from Kagbeni to Chele (3080 m/ 4-5 hrs)
After finishing trek permit formalities our hike ahead towards river bank of Kaligandaki. The up and downhill trail leads to Tangbe village and then to Chhusang. After a steep trail we’ll reaches Chaile which is a small beautiful place. Overnight in Chele.

Day 6: Trek from Chele to Shyanbochen (3800 m / 5-6 hrs)
Our trail pass through Eklo Bhatti to Taklam Pass(3624m). We have to climb to reach Taklam La Pass from where views of Tilicho peaks, Damodar Danda etc can be observed. Then our trail descends towards Samar village. After 3 hrs hike with cool streams and juniper trees on the way we’ll be at Shyangboche. Overnight in Shyangboche.

Day 7: Trek from Syanbochen to Ghaymi (3520 m/ 5-6 hrs)
We will ascend towards Yamda La (3850m). We’ll passes through Tibetan style houses, chortens, mountains, fields of Barley and climb to Nyi Pass(4010m). Our trail desvends to Ghaymi from Nyi Pass. Overnight in Ghaymi.

Day 8: Trek from Ghaymi to Charang (3560 m / 5-6 hrs)
From Ghaymi our trail starts and crosses through Ghaymi Khola. We’ll find a very long Mani Wall, a sacred stone wall beside the path which was made by Bhuddhism followers. We’ll pass through trees, maze of fields and houses separated by stone walks before reaching at Charang. Overnight in Charang.

Day 9: Trek from Charang to Lo Mangthang (3840 m / 4-5 hrs)
Our trail continues to descend towards Charang Chu Canyon and climbs steeply after crossing the river. Then our trail gently ascends to windy Pass Lo and descends towards Lo- Mangthang from where we can enjoy a magnificent view of Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna I and Bhrikut peak. We can see a walled city of Tibet boardered on Lo Mangthang. Overnight in Lo-Mangthang.

Day 10: Explore Lo Manthang
Lomanthang is the capital of Upper Mustang Region and main highlight of this trek. Today, we are going to explore Lo Mangthang. We can visit to Namgyal Gompa monastery and northwest main village Tingkhar of Lo Mangthang. Besides visiting above place we can also visit ‘Tall Champa Lakhang’ Thungchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and four storey building of Raja’s palace with beautiful panoramic views of peaks. The choice would be ours where would we like to visit. Overnight in Lo-Manthang.

Day 11: Trek from Lo Mangthang to Drakmar (3810 m/ 6-7 hrs)
We’ll have a different route while returning back to Lo Mangthang. We’ll passes through Gyakar to Drakmar. On the way to Drakmar we’ll find 1200 yrs old Ghar Ghompa and its rock painting. As it was told that anyone who make a wish at Ghar Gompa, it will be fulfilled. Overnight in Drakmar.

Day 12: Trek from Drakmar to Ghiling (3806 m / 5-6 hrs)
Today is a rough walk up and down hill along the high and windy road. We will walk down to Ghiling valley passing through mostly barren land and brown hills on the way. Overnight in Ghiling.

Day 13: Trek from Ghiling to Chhuksang (2980 m/ 5-6 hrs)
We will continue our trek from Ghiling to Chhuksang passing through the ancient villages and breathtaking landscapes.The trail will also lead you to popular Chungsi cave on the way followed by Samar village.

Day 14: Trek from Chhuksang to Jomsom (2800 m/ 6-7 hrs)
The last day of our trek would be the longest walk for the trek. We’ll star our trail early in the morning and ahead towards Jomsom via Kagbeni. Overnight in Jomsom.

Note:- If we would like to visit Muktinath we have to spend one more day at Jomsom.

Day 15: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara. Transfer to the hotel
Early morning, we will fly back to Pokhara via Jomsom as per our flight schedule. A 30 minutes flight would take us to Pokhara with mountain views of Annapurna ranges. And the rest of the day you can explore around Pokhara city or take rest at the hotel. Overnight in Lakeside, Pokhara.

Day 16: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Transfer to Patan.
You will be transferred to Pokhara airport one hour before your flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, you will be received by one of our representative and transfer to your hotel in Patan. Today you will be staying in beautiful traditional style hotel in Patan- the city of fine arts and architecture.

Day 17: Free day to explore city on your own
Today you have free time to explore beautiful city on your own. Some of the closest places to visit around Patan city are Patan Durbar Square, Patan Museum ,Golden temple, Mahaboudha temple etc.

Similary, depending upon your time availability and interets you can also visit other places like Bungamati and Khokana village or other heritage sites like Boudhanath, Pashupatinath etc which is 30 min drive and you can easily get taxi to reach there.

Day 18: Transfer to the airport. Departure.
Today is your departure day. Himalayan Namobuddha’s representative will drop you to Airport 3 hours before scheduled flight. It’s time to bid Nepal farewell visit and appreciate your visit to our country Nepal. Hopefully we shall meet again.
