Trip Route: Kathmandu – Jomsom – Kagbeni – Chaile – Shyangbochen – Ghaymi – Charang – Lo Manthang – Drakmar – Ghiling – Chhuksang – Jomsom – Pokhara – Kathmandu

Upper Mustang:

In Nepali, Mustang means fertile plain and also called Lo because the area was known to be kingdom of Lo. The people of mustang spoke Tibetan and Tibet culture is being practiced. There are highly dominated ethnic groups of people such as Thakalis, Gurung and Tibetan in Mustang. Upper Mustang Trek is an adventurous trek passes through non forested barren landscape, a steep up and down hills, high peaks, alpine valleys, glaciers etc and a trek as similar as in Tibet. Upper mustang Trek provides a chance to explore the thousand years old monastery, caves, different landscapes, close look to the mountain people/tribes of Nepal and their culture. The magnificent and panoramic view of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and other Himalayan peaks can be observed while passing through an adventurous path.

Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu

Welcome to Nepal. At your arrival in Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, Himalayan Namobuddha Travel and Treks’ representative will be there to welcome you. The representative will help you to check in your hotel rooms. In the hotel, you will be briefed about your activities during the trip. In the evening you will be welcomed with a dinner in one of the typical Nepali restaurant with cultural programs. Overnight in hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu valley & Patan

After breakfast in the hotel, we do sightseeing around Kathmandu City. We start our day trip from Thamel, this is the famous tourist street of Kathmandu city. You can shop your needy equipments, then to the famous historical place Kathmandu Durbar Square along with tour of local market and local lifestyle of Nepal. And then we will be visiting Patan Durbar Square and living goddess of Nepal – KUMARI of Patan. Overnight in the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (about 7 hrs)

The first day of our journey begins with drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, a beautiful lake city. Enjoying the beautiful scenario of greenery hills and villages we’ll reach to Pokhara. We’ll explore the pokhara especially Fewa  lake and surroundings if time is consumable. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 04: Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (30 min) and trek to Kagbeni

As per our flight schedule we’ll take an adventurous flight to Jomsom with spectacular views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna ranges including several other peaks from the point. After reaching Jomsom, the headquarter of Mustang our trek starts the gradual path on the Kali Gandaki river bed to Ekley Bhatti village experiencing windy air. After some walk from Ekley Bhatti we’ll reach to Kagbeni village which lies on the bank of two rivers. Overnight in Kagbeni.

Day 05: Trek from Kagbeni to Chaile

After finishing trek permit formalities our hike ahead towards river bank of Kaligandaki. The up and downhill trail leads to Tangbe village and then to Chhusang. After a steep trail we’ll reaches Chaile which is a small beautiful place. Overnight in Chaile.

Day 06: Trek from Chailey to Shyanbochen

Our trail pass through Eklo Bhatti to Taklam Pass(3624m). We have to climb to reach Taklam La Pass from where views of Tilicho peaks, Damodar Danda etc can be observed. Then our trail descends towards Samar village. After 3 hrs hike with cool streams and juniper trees on the way we’ll be at Shyangboche. Overnight in Shyangboche.

Day 07: Trek from Syanbochen to Ghaymi

We will ascend towards Yamda La (3850m). We’ll passes through Tibetan style houses, chortens, mountains, fields of Barley and climb to Nyi Pass(4010m). Our trail desvends to Ghaymi from Nyi Pass. Overnight in Ghaymi.

Day 08: Trek from Ghaymi to Charang

From Ghaymi our trail starts and crosses through Ghaymi Khola. We’ll find a very long Mani Wall, a sacred stone wall beside the path which was made by Bhuddhism followers. We’ll pass through trees, maze of fields and houses separated by stone walks before reaching at Charang. Overnight in Charang.

Day 09: Trek from Charang to Lo Mangthang

Our trail continues to descend towards Charang Chu Canyon and climbs steeply after crossing the river. Then our trail gently ascends to windy Pass Lo and descends towards Lo- Mangthang from where we can enjoy a magnificent view of Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna I and Bhrikut peak. We can see a walled city of Tibet boardered on Lo Mangthang. Overnight in Lo-Mangthang.

Day 10: Explore Lo Mangthang

We could continue our trek if we want but we are going to explore Lo Mangthang today. We can visit to Namgyal Gompa monastery and northwest main village Tingkhar of Lo Mangthang. Besides visiting above place we can also visit ‘Tall Champa Lakhang’ Thungchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and four storey building of Raja’s palace with beautiful panoramic views of peaks. The choice would be ours where would we like to visit. Overnight in Lo-Mangthang.

Day 11: Trek from Lo Mangthang to Drakmar

We’ll have a different route while returning back to Lo Mangthang. We’ll passes through Gyakar to Drakmar. On the way to Drakmar we’ll find 1200 yrs old Ghar Ghompa and its rock painting. As it was told that anyone who make a wish at Ghar Gompa, it’ll  be fulfilled. Overnight in Drakmar.

Day 12: Trek from Drakmar to Ghiling

The trail will be little easy walk for today for about 5 6 hrs. We’ll walk down to Ghiling valley. The environment would be dusty and windy at Ghiling during the day. Overnight in Ghiling.

Day 13: Trek from Ghiling to Chhuksang

We’ll continue our trek from Ghiling to Chhuksang enjoying wonderful view of Himalayas. After 5-6 hrs of walk we’ll reach to Chhuksang and stay overnight.

Day 14: Trek from Chhuksang to Jomsom

The last day of our trek would be the longest walk for the trek. We’ll star our trail early in the morning and ahead towards Jomsom via Kagbeni. Overnight in Jomsom. (Note:- If we would like to visit Muktinath we have to spend one more day at Jomsom.

Day 15: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara

We’ll fly back to Pokhara via Jomsom as per our flight schedule. A 30 minutes flight would take us to Pokhara with mountain views of Annapurna ranges. And the rest of the day we’ll explore the pokhara city and relax on a hotel. Overnight in Lakeside, Pokhara.

Day 16: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

This day we will drive back to Kathmandu enjoying the ride with scenic greenery along the Dudhkoshi river. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 17:  Free day in Kathmandu

This day you will have free day on your own. In the evening, Himalayan Namobuddha Travel and Trek will take you for a farewell lunch or dinner in one of the finest restaurant in Kathmandu. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 18: Departure from Kathmandu

Today is your departure day. Himalayan Namobuddha’s representative will drop you to Airport 3 hours before scheduled flight. It’s time to bid Nepal farewell visit and appreciate your visit to our country Nepal. Hopefully we shall meet again.
