Langtang & Gosainkunda Trek

Langtang Gosainkunda Trek is an adventurous trekking trail that combines the spectacular valley of Langtang with the beautiful high mountain lakes at Gosaikund. Gosainkunda means alpine fresh water, oligotrophic lakes suitated in Langtang National Park with an altitude of 4380m. Thousands of people trek to Gosainkunda during Janai Purnima festival in every august because it is believed as the holiest lake of Hindu pilgrims where they wash their body. There are some other popular lakes nearby Gosainkunda such as Nagkunda, Suryakunda, Saraswotikunda and Bhairabkunda. On the way, the trail generally ascends across forest and beautiful mountains from where panoramic views can be observed.

Day 1: Arrival. Transfer to the hotel. Evening, welcome dinner.

Welcome to Nepal. At your arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, Himalayan Namobuddha Travel and Treks’ representative will be there to welcome you and transfer to the hotel. In the evening, you will be taken for a welcome dinner in one of the typical Nepali restaurant. Overnight at Kathmandu.

Depending upon your arrival time, you can also have a few options for activities. You can relax at the hotel or go out and explore the city on your own or with an English speaking guide (optional add on). Here are some best options to consider:

Explore around Thamel – a colorful tourist hub of Nepal. You will spot numbers of hotels, money exchange, hotels, shops for trekking gears, etc and many restaurants to chose from offering both Western and local Nepali cuisines.
Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is a great place to start your exploration. You can follow narrow alleyways teeming with small shops, ancient temples, and local restaurants.
If you want to stretch your legs, Swayambhunath, the white stupa rising above the valley, is the perfect spot to catch the sunset over the valley. You can also take a cab which is approximately about 15 minutes drive from Thamel if you are too tired to walk.
Visit the Garden of dreams, which is a classical historical garden located at Thamel(about 5-10 min walk). It is an exquisite ensemble of pavilions, fountains, decorative garden furniture, and beautiful flowers and trees.

Day 2: Trek Briefing. Visit Pashupatinath and Boudhanath Stupa.

Detailed trek briefing at your hotel in presence of your trek guide. You can ask any questions you might have. Today, you will enjoy a guided Kathmandu tour of popular UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Nepal: Boudhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple. Today, you will get to know many interesting facts and stories about Hindu and Buddhist culture, history and the people of Nepal from your local tour guide. You can take your own time as you like at each temple to explore around and asking the questions to your tour guide (this is a private tour just for you) for spending your time in Kathmandu.

Boudhanath Stupa is one of the most popular UNESCO world heritage sites located about 11 km from the center and northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu. The stupa is massive mandala and it is one of the largest unique structure’s stupas in the world with a long history. It is the center of Tibetan culture in Kathmandu and rich in Buddhist symbolism.
Pashupatinath Temple is a famous and sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located on the banks of the Bagmati River, approximately 5 km north-east of Kathmandu dedicated to Shiva. You will see many Sadhu monks and the cremations taking place across the holy river of this temple.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550m / about 8 hrs)

After breakfast, enjoying Himalayan views we will take a drive to Syabrubesi. We will pass through Trishuli Bazar and Dunche before reaching to Syabrubesi. We can explore surrounding area at the evening. Overnight in Syabrubesi.

 

Day 4: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,470m/ 5-6 hrs)

Passing through dense forest and crossing of several suspension bridges, we will reach to Lama Hotel. We were following Langtang River while heading for Lama Hotel and the trail leads up and down path. Overnight in Lama Hotel.

 

Day 5: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,430m / 5-6 hrs)

The trail continues to climb steadily along the dense forest to Ghore Tabela. After reaching Ghore Tabela the trail leaves the forest and a magnificent view of Langtang Lirung appears. Leaving behind the forest our trail began with ascending Langtang village. Overnight in Langtang village.

 

Day 6: Trek from Langtang village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m / 5-6 hrs)

We will ascend gradally largest mani wall in Nepal, made from stone with prayers written on them behind and crosses small villages with wooden bridge. We will have a great view of Yansa Tsenji and Kimshun to the north and Langtang Himal to the north west before arriving at Kyanjin Gompa. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.

 

Day 7: Acclimatization Day at Kyanjin Gompa

Today you can choose to do optional hike to Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri (4984m) and hike back to Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 8: Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,470m / 5-6 hrs)

Today we will hike back to Lama hotel enjoying beautiful natural views on the way. Overnight in Lama Hotel.

Day 9: Trek from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2,470m / 5-6 hrs)

We will keep retracing our way up to Thulo Syabrubesi from Lama Hotel enjoying beautiful lush green vegetation. It seems different view while we were retracing our trek up to Syabrubesi. Overnight in Syabrubesi.

Day 10: Trek from Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa (3330m / 4-5 hrs)

Our trail begins to ascend all the way through forest of oaks, firs and rhododendrons while heading towards Sing Gompa. We will find a small monastery and a cheese factory in Sing Gompa. On the way, we will have a nice view of Langtang Himal and Langtang Valley. Overnight in Sing Gompa.

Day 11: rek from Sing Gompa to Gosainkunda (4380m / 7-8hrs)

Our trail leads to ascend through rhododendron forest and climb a wider path of alpine to arrive at Gosainkunda. There are three lakes in Gosaikunda ie. Saraswoti Kunda, Bharavi Kunda and Gosainkunda in which Gosainkunda is a main place of pilgrimage and have a religious importance of its own. We will explore the Gosainkund and stay overnight at teahouse in Gosainkunda.

Day 12: Trek from Gosainkunda to Ghopte (3440m / 6-7 hrs)

Our trail ascends through rough path and crosses moraines. We will cross Laurebina La and descends to Phedi. Then our trail leads up and down trek with rocky hills, pine and rhododendron forest until we will reach to Ghopte. Overnight in Ghopte.

Day 13: Trek from Ghopte to Tharepati (3690m / 4-5 hrs)

From Ghopte our trail descend along the ridge through rohododendron and juniper forest. Then we will ascend to stream before reaching to Tharepati which is on the lap of mountain. Overnight in Tharepati.

Day 14: Trek from Tharepati to Tarkeghyang (2,590m / 5-7 hrs)

We will climb to ridge above the village and enter through forested area. Then we will follow Melamchi River and ascends towards Melamchi Guan. We will continue our trail leading to the other side of the old and typical Sherpa village, Tarkeghyang. Overnight in Tarkeghyang.

Day 15: Trek from Tarkeghyang to Sermanthang (2610m / 3-4 hrs)

The trail continues to the small beautiful village of Gangwal after crossing small forest behind the way. We will find a small monastery in Gangwal village and ahead towards another beautiful village named Sermanthang where people practice Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism as in Bhutan. Overnight in Sermanthang.

Day 16: Trek from Sermanthang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar (3-4 hrs). Drive to Patan (2-3 hrs)

We take a short descend walk to Melamchi Pul Bazaar with many Sherpa villages. Upon your arrival at Melamchi Pul Bazaar, you will be picked up by private vehicle and transfer to the hotel in Patan – the city of fine arts.

Patan is the best place in the Kathmandu Valley to enjoy the walk and observe artisans at work. The town is full of traditional Newari craftspeople, so you can find craftsmen doing Buddhist thangka paintings, metal statues making, all kinds of jewelry, and brass and copper crafts.

Day 17: Free day to explore around the city

Some of the best places to visit around Patan are Patan Durbar Square, Patan Museum , Golden Temple, Kumari -the living goddess of Patan, Mahaboudha temple, which are all walking distance from your hotel .

Day 18: Transfer to the airport. Departure.

Today is your departure day. Himalayan Namobuddha’s representative will drop you to Airport 3 hours before scheduled flight. It’s time to bid Nepal farewell visit and appreciate your visit to our country Nepal. Hopefully we shall meet again.
