Traveling Nepal in Monsoon

Monsoon in Nepal (June – Aug) doesn’t mean continuous rain for days straight. It might rain a couple of hours a day and then it clears up or it might rain occasionally.  Traveling in Nepal in monsoon season might be a bit challenging for some travelers but it has also many perks.

Monsoon brings agriculture season in Nepal. So if you travel this time of year, you can witness farmers working in the field, lush green trees and walk through rice fields. You will not see many tourists this time of year that will give you a chance to travel around the city or even most touristic places and trekking trails without much crowd, take more time to interact with the locals, get attractive offers at hotels and restaurants and find it more spacious. Also, the dust in major cities gets a little less crazy with all the rain.

Few useful tips to make your travel experience the most memorable in Monsoon in Nepal.

  • Walk slowly and carefully- Especially if you are trekking, the trails might be a bit slippery and you might also encounter with leeches
  • Dress comfortably – Wear comfortable clothes like a local and suitable for the weather
  • Be rain ready – Always carry raincoat or umbrella while traveling
  • Carry mosquito repellent creams – Mosquitoes are also very common this time of year
