Trip Description

Nepal is one the most popular destination for real adventure, fascinating nature, immense spirit and diverse culture and lifestyle. Nepal is well known country in the world for it unique cultures, festivals and traditions that are celebrated around the year by various ethnic groups living in Nepal.

Among many festivals celebrated in Nepal, Tihar is the second  biggest festival of Nepal after Dashain which is also known by Dipawali , is a five-day-long Hindu festival. It has its unique ways of celebration which is considered to be of great importance as it shows reverence to not just the humans and the gods, but also to the animals like crows, cows and dogs that maintain an intimate relationship with humans. This festival is basically worshiping Goddess of wealth  Laxmi . However many other religious activities are also performed during Tihar.  Among, many ethnic groups in Nepal, Newari community has special tradition of celebrating Tihar . Thus, during this trip, you will be have unique experience of  celebration of Tihar in a Newar community.

Day 1:

Arrival in Kathmandu
Welcome to Nepal. At your arrival in Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu, Himalayan Namobuddha Travel and Treks’ representative will be there to welcome you. The representative will take you to the homestay where you will be staying. After freshening up, you will be briefed about your activities during the trip. In the evening you will be welcomed with a dinner in one of the typical Nepali restaurants with cultural programs. Overnight at the homestay in Kathmandu.
Today is Kag Puja (Crow day) – the first day of the Tihar festival and each member of the family takes the first portion of the meal outside on a platter and offers meals to the crow.  
 

Day 2:

Bhaktapur Visit
Today we visit Bhaktapur – one of the important World Heritage Site of Nepal. Bhaktapur is the city of Newars where you can see many historical places like Palace of Fifty-five Windows, the Golden Gate, Nyatapola Temple, Siddhi Laxmi Temple, Vatsala Durga Temple and many more. After the sightseeing in Bhaktapur, you will be taken to homestay where you will be spending today’s night to experience diversity of Nepalese culture.
Today is Kukur puja (Dog day) –  the second day of Tihar festival, you will experience the worshipping of Dog as people offer flower garland and foods to their dog for their honesty and staying with the human being. During you tour , you will see the dogs being worshipped almost all parts of Kathmandu where you will be visiting
 

Day 3:

Kathmandu Sightseeing & Laxmi Puja Celebration
After breakfast , we do sightseeing around Kathmandu city.  You will be taken to the famous historical place Kathmandu Durbar Square and then we will take you for Patan tour where you will be visiting Patan Durbar Square and living goddess of Nepal – KUMARI of Patan.  Overnight at homestay in Kathmandu.
Today is Laxmi Puja – the third day of Tihar Festival that falls on Purnima (full moon day), Today Cow is worshiped in the morning offering garland of flower and food. Cow is believed as Goddess Laxmi. And at evening Goddess Laxmi is worshipped or welcome throughout the nation. Goddess Laxmi is believed to be the goddess of good fortune, wealth, beauty, and light. Also you will enjoy delicious festival feast included in the package. 
 

Day 4:

Celebrate  of the Mha Pooja (Self body)
Morning time, you can relax on your own or go for some optional tours . In the evening, you will participate one of the unique culture of Newar community called the Mha puja – worshipping self body. Overnight at  homestay in Kathmandu.
Today is Gobardhan Puja (Oxen day) & Mha Puja (self worship) both – the fourth day of Tihar festival.  The Oxen are worshiped with garland of flower and food.
Mha Puja (self worship)it is specially celebrated by Newar Community. Mha Puja is believed as purification, strengthening and understanding of oneself and worshipping and blessing oneself to achieve unselfishness and generosity. Also you will enjoy delicious festival feast included in the package.
 

Day 5:

Celebration of Bhai Tika (Brothers day )
Today we will participate in celebration of Bhai Tika — the last day of the five-day and the most important day of Tihar. In this day the sisters apply Tika to their brothers’ forehead and thank them for the protection they give and wish for their prosperity and long life. The Tika is colourful that consists of seven colors and called as ‘Saptarangi Tika’ in Nepali. Along with the Tika, the sisters offer garlands of Marigold and Chrysanthemum, sweets, and special dishes for them. Overnight at  homestay. Also you will enjoy delicious festival feast included in the package. 
 

Day 6:

Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (about 7 hour)
After exciting celebration of Tihar festival with Nepalese family, we will drive to Pokhara- one of the most beautiful city of Nepal . It always worths visiting this city while you are in Nepal where you can enjoy most beautiful natural scenery, close views of mountains and various interesting places. Upon arrival at Pokhara, you will check in the hotel . You can rest for sometime or visit lakeside area on your own.  Overnight at the hotel in Lakeside, Pokhara.
 

Day 7:

Pokhara Sightseeing
Early morning, you will be taken to Sarangkot for beautiful sunrise view. After breakfast you will proceed for city sightseeing covering   International Mountain Museum, Devi’s fall and Gupteshwore cave. Overnight at the hotel in Lakeside, Pokhara.
 

Day 8:

Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu (about 7 hours)
After breakfast we will drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu enjoying beautiful natural view and rivers on the way. Upon reaching there transfer to hotel and relax. Overnight at the hotel / homestay  in Kathmandu.
 

Day 9:

Free Day in Kathmandu or optional tours
This day you will have free day on your own for some shopping for your friends / family or you can go for some optional tours. In the evening you will be taken for farewell dinner. Overnight at the hotel / homestay in Kathmandu.
 

Day 10:

Departure day
Today is your departure day. Himalayan Namo buddha’s representative will drop you to Airport 3 hours before scheduled flight. It’s time to bid Nepal farewell visit and appreciate your visit to our country Nepal. Hopefully we shall meet again.
